#1 Solution: Check If Adaptive Brightness is Disabled

The adaptive brightness can sometimes lead to a fixed brightness even if one is trying to adjust the brightness. Go through the following steps to verify if this is the problem:

Step 1: Right-click on the battery icon present on the task bar and click on Adjust screen brightness.

Step 2:  Now, click on Change plan settings of the current power plan.

Step 3: Now, click on Change advanced power settings.

Step 4: Now a popup window will open, click on Display and then select Enable adaptive Brightness from the expanded list. Turn ‘off ‘ both On battery & Plugged in option and Click on Apply and then OK to continue.

That’s it. Now have a check to see if your problem is resolved.

#2 Solution: Update your Display Driver for Brightness

Outdated or incompatible display driver can also be a possible reason behind the brightness control issue. So here the solution is to update the Display adapter drivers.

Step 1: Firstly, right click on the Start menu and then click on Device Manager.

Step 2: You will see a Device manager pop-up window. Here you need to find and expand the Display adapters.

Step 3: Now right-click on your Graphic Card Driver and then click Update Driver Software.

Step 4: In the next window you will be asked to select how do you want to search for driver software. Select Search Automatically for updated driver software. Windows 10 will search for the latest drivers and it will be downloaded and installed in your device automatically.

Step 5: After successful completion of installation you will get another pop-up saying Windows has successfully updated your driver software. Close the pop-up.

Step 6: Now select Action from the menu bar of Device Manager pop-up and click on Scan for hardware changes. It will detect any changes due to the latest driver.

Step 7: After the scan, a popup may appear asking to restart your device. If not, please restart your device manually.

That’s it. Verify now if your problem is resolved or not.

#3 Solution: Using Microsoft’s Basic Display Adapter

If none of the above methods has worked for you then this will definitely resolve your problem. In it, we are going to use the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter to fix Windows 10 Brightness issue.

Step 1: Firstly, right click on the Start menu and then click on Device Manager.

Step 2: You will see a Device manager pop-up window. Now expand Display adapters, right-click on your Graphic Card Driver and then click Update Driver Software.

Step 3: In the next pop-up window, select Browse my computer for driver software.

Step 4: Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer from the next screen.

Step 5: Under the Show compatible hardware menu, select Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from the list. Then click Next to continue.

Step 6: Lastly, select Action from the menu bar of Device Manager pop-up and click on Scan for hardware changes.

That’s it. Restart your computer to apply changes successfully.

When you buy a new laptop or PC, it comes with pre-installed Windows 10 and it has brightness control system. We purchased Dell-3568 from Amazon.com and it also came with Windows 10 and I found the installed driver for the same purpose. So, If I want to control Windows 10 brightness with slider, I can do easily with the few keys only. You can find slider on the main website of your laptop manufacturers or try it on Google.

I am using windows 10 on my Dell 3568 laptop and it has FN + F11 to decrease the brightness level and FN + F12 to increase the brightness level. The brightness shortcut depends on your keyboard.
