Setting Up Your Warehouse Facility for Success

When the world gets back on its feet, there will be a rush on orders regardless of what type of business it is that you are running. It is very wise to use what time you have left of this calm time to make sure that your business is ready to jump into action and get those valuable orders before your competitors do.

By making sure that your employees, your site, and your equipment is all up to date, refreshed, and well maintained, you will be at the best stage you can be.

Speed up packing

It is important in any warehouse that the packing area is optimized and organized with all materials and tools kept close to hand and replenished at the end of the day. This means that your packing operative will not have to leave their workstation in order to find more packing material within their working day.

In order to get it so that they do not have to even go wandering to find the products which they need to pack, it is a good idea to have conveyors fitted so that the products are taken directly from the assembly areas through to the end of line packing area. In doing this, it will speed up the time which products are left on shelves waiting to be packed. This is a fantastic idea, especially if your business works to orders rather than just replacing stock held in a warehouse environment.

Zone your areas

Be sure to zone the areas of your warehouse so that your employees can find items and products faster. Make sure to use signage both hanging from the ceiling, shelves, and floor paint so that areas are clearly marked.

Keeping your kitting areas and your finished items areas distant from each other so that your warehouse staff does not get in each other way is also a good idea.

It can be very beneficial to look at the layout of your warehouse as regards workflow and try to make it as one way as you can. This will cut down on accidents, as well as bumps and scrapes of your machinery.

With this in mind, having designated pedestrian areas marked out and away from where you have your machine operating is a good safety measure for protecting your staff members.

Invest in the correct hardware

It is important to invest in the correct hardware for your warehouse employees to carry out their job roles quickly and safely. Not all warehouses require the same equipment, so it is good to do some research into what is best for your business.

You may find that your business will thrive much better with the use of AMRs. AMRs are robots that use sensor technology to move around the warehouse.

Using AMRs to do menial tasks within your warehouse will then free up your employee’s time so that they can focus on the more important tasks involved within their daily job roles.
